Dress code is cocktail attire. The top of Whistler Blackcomb can be about 15 degrees cooler and windier than the base of the mountain. Please bring a coat for the ceremony which will be held outside. Dinner and dancing will be inside. If you would like to wear high heels, there is only a very short walk at the top of the gondola, all on hard surfaces.
If you decide to head up for hiking, biking, or just to see the view before the wedding, you will need to buy a lift ticket from the ticket office at the base of the gondola. For the actual wedding, we will hand you your ticket when you arrive at the base of the gondola.
The gondola is incredibly smooth (no jolts or rocking), and does not have a clear floor. If you are nervous, sit facing the mountain. Luke, Glenn, and Lori are all scared of heights and after initial panicking from Luke, still handled the gondola fantastically. Eagle.
The Whistler Gondola is an enclosed way to get to the top of the mountain. It takes a little under 30 minutes to get to the top, with one stop half way up the mountain (remain seated until the very top). There are seats for 8 and it has gorgeous views of the mountains. It might stop briefly while you are on your way up. This is NORMAL and just means they are loading something or someone on that requires more time. Relax and wait for it to continue! To board, the gondola slows down to a very slow pace, and the attendant will direct you to walk on. If you need extra time to board, the attendant can stop it. Ask the attendant if you have any questions.
Yes! Even the gondola. It slows to a very leisurely pace for loading and can be stopped by the attendant if somebody needs some extra boarding time. Everything at the ceremony and reception is wheelchair accessible as well.
Whistler village is at 2,200 feet. This is 6000 feet lower than Vail and should not affect you. Roundhouse lodge is at 6,000 feet, and might give some people who are unused to altitude a headache. Please drink water, and take ibeuprofen if you get a headache. Also, caution! Alcohol will hit you faster than normal!
