Things To Do

Taubaté

Taubaté

Taubaté, SP, Brazil

Taubaté is where the wedding itself will be happening, and Luiza's hometown. It is not a paticularly touristic location, but there are still definitely things you can do–we recommend visiting Sítio do Picapau Amarelo, a small little park that used to belong to Brazil's most accomplished children's writer and is the setting for his stories (it's not super impressive, but it is cute and definitely historical). Grab a pizza at La Fornarina or drive a little further to enjoy delicious italian meals at Cantina Gadioli!

São Paulo

São Paulo

São Paulo, SP, Brazil

São Paulo is where you will most likely fly into. It's a very big city (think New York, but bigger) with literal millions of things to do, so we can't really recommend any one thing since it will depend on what you want to do. You can move around using the subway, or you can just drive/Uber places, just be aware that if you're driving, you'll probably have to pay for parking almost everywhere you go. Definitely recommend a stroll down Avenida Paulista where you can pop into MASP (São Paulo Museum of Arts) or grab a bite to eat at one of the streetside cafes, but other than that, look into guides and pick what you want to visit from there.

Campos do Jordão

Campos do Jordão

Campos do Jordão, SP, Brazil

Campos do Jordão is a Swiss-inspired mountain town about a 45min drive away from where the wedding will be hosted. Since it's wintertime, it also means that it's the tourist season for the area, so if you're planning on visiting book a place to stay ahead of time and be aware that there might be crowds. You are more than welcome to plan your visit as you wish, though a few recommendations for you do check out include–Vila Capivari (the "downtown" area, we recommend visiting Baden Baden for nice beer, and the bar near it called Safari for delicious fondue options, and try Casa do Montanhês for a super creamy hot chocolate); Horto Florestal (big preserved rainforest area, great for a hike or just a nice stroll if you feel up to it); Tarundu (where, among other things, you can do a baloon ride for up to 8 people!), not to mention the gorgeous lookout point on your drive up/down the mountain. Definitely recommend visiting even if for just a day trip!

Ubatuba

Ubatuba

Ubatuba, SP, Brazil

I cannot recommend Ubatuba enough if you're looking to enjoy the beach! It may be a little cold, but you should still be able to swim if you want, but it's beautiful to visit regardless. A few beaches we recommend checking out: Praia Grande or Toninhas for a central location (the former is busier, but both should be fine as it's out of season); Praia da Almada if you want a more relaxed experience (check out Bar do Caju kiosk and try a cashew caipirinha); or Itamambuca if you're into surfing. That said, feel free to do your own research and pick a different beach entirely, you'll likely have a great time no matter what. There are also waterfalls around town that you can look into if that's more your vibe. If you have the time, check out Projeto Tamar for a super cool experience learning about the conservation of sea turtles!

Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil

You can't do a "things to do" in Brasil and not include Rio de Janeiro. Rio is about a 3h drive from where the wedding will be held but, once again, we do not recommend driving into it, especially without a local guide. Save yourself the potential trouble and book a flight from São Paulo if you really want to go, then use Uber while in the city. Personally, we recommend getting a beach front hotel in either Copacabana or Ipanema, and then using Uber to go visit Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain. You can also find a variety of city tours for many different price points, so if you want to have a little more variety to your visit, feel free to look into that. Please make sure to leave jewelry, smartwatches and the like at the hotel when walking around Rio–you should be safe if you stick to these areas, but it's better to be cautious than have your vacation ruined over getting something stolen.

Miscellaneous

A few other places you can check out if you want is "O Lavandário" in Cunha, a beautiful lavender farm with gorgeous mountain views. There's a cafe on location, but it might have to be booked ahead of time so double check on their website. https://lavandario.com.br/ If you're religious (and even if you're not), the Basílica at the Santuário de Aparecida is a very beautiful, very large church and definitely worth a visit if you have the time (it's about 1h, 1h30 away from Taubaté). https://www.a12.com/santuario
