Pikes Peak – Guests may want to visit Pikes Peak, elevation 14,110 ft., which is the 31st highest peak out of 54 Colorado peaks that are above 14,000 ft in elevation. Pikes Peak is known as “America’s Mountain” because it is the most visited mountain in the United States. In fact, no other mountain in the world is visited more than Pikes Peak other than Mt. Fuji in Japan. The views are breathtaking and demonstrate well the inspiration Katherine Lee Bates received while visiting Pikes Peak from which she wrote of the “purple mountains’ majesty above the fruited plains” in her beloved song, “America the Beautiful”. Guests may choose to drive up Pikes Peak (Gate opens at 9:00 am and closes at 3:00 pm.) or ride the Pikes Peak Cog Railway (http://www.cograilway.com/).
Garden of the Gods – This is truly a most spectacular natural wonder (http://www.gardenofgods.com/home/index.cfm). A drive through the 14-mile loop is a must for all of you. Garden of the Gods, which is only a few minutes from The Broadmoor, is a registered National Natural Landmark with 300 ft towering sandstone rock formations against a backdrop of snow-capped Pikes Peak, the city of Colorado Springs, and brilliant blue skies. For those interested in geology, a stop at the Visitors Center may be advisable. There is also spectacular hiking and even horseback riding if that is your thing! For the rest, we highly recommend a brief drive through the park sometime during your stay.
The Broadmoor hotel is home to 17 restaurants, cafes, and lounges, two legendary golf courses, a world-renowned spa, 19 distinctive retail outlets, and an array of programs for guests of all ages and interests. We also specialize in hosting unforgettable meetings and events with over 315,000 square feet of sophisticated function space.
Merely minutes from The Broadmoor, are preserved the authentic Anasazi cliff dwellings, built more than 700 years ago. This rare historic treasure is cloistered in the heart of the city of Colorado Springs in a scenic area (http://www.cliffdwellingsmuseum.com/).
Tours leave approximately every 30 minutes through 4:30p for this playground of spelunkers! The Cave of the Winds is next to the Cliff Dwellings and only minutes from The Broadmoor. The Discovery Tour lasts 45 minutes and is a “pleasant” 54 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. Cave of the Winds, Cliff Dwellings are very close to each other (http://www.caveofthewinds.com/CaveOfTheWindsTours.aspx).
