Back in the colonial period, Penang Hill was a cool retreat for the Brits. It's now a popular tourist destination with some great views and forest walks.
Drive all the way to the northwest corner of the island and you'll find Penang National Park. You can hike or take a boat to Turtle Beach and then onward to Monkey Beach.
Lucy's dad grew grew up on the Lim Jetty but the Clan Jetties are now UNESCO World Heritage sites. They were built by Chinese immigrants in the 19th century, each belonging to one family.
If you want some beach time, head down to Batu Ferringhi. Go in the evening to wander around the night market. We don't recommend swimming as there are jellyfish around!
Khoo Kongsi is one of the fanciest Chinese clan community centres in Malaysia. Make sure to stop into Uncle Lim's souvenir and ice cream shop in the grounds of the Kongsi while you're there!
Come for the greenery, stay for the monkeys.
Stroll around George Town to see some of the town's street art and take in Chinese, Malay and Indian culture sitting side by side. There's an official self-guided walking tour which starts at Penang Town Hall, close to Fort Cornwallis and ends at The Blue Mansion.
