They met for the first time in Mr. Weldon's RAM time class in 7th grade. While Lucy thought Jake was the cutest boy in school, Jake was distracted... but they were friends and messaged (AIM) when Lucy had to move back to England in 2003, then they just lost touch over the years.
One day, while scrolling through Facebook, Lucy noticed that the guy she had a crush on back in middle school had moved back to San Diego. After a couple glasses of wine, she plucked up the courage to message him. Jake quickly responded, but tried to be cool about it... within a week, they had planned to meet up at small music venue in Pacific Beach (710 Beach Club). On the ride home, Jake reached his sweaty palm over and they held hands for the first time.... the rest is history!
Jake and Lucy have always been casual about things, but once she moved in, he knew he had to lock it down. Things clicked, and they knew the foundation was laid. Jake ordered a ring-finger sizer, this type of mini-measuring tape... he thought he'd given himself away, but she was adorably unaware that he had already started the design... the day Jake got the ring, he proposed to her. The setting was the deck at their place, and Lucy had just gotten home with groceries. After helping put them away, he poured a couple of glasses of wine and said, "Let's go enjoy the sunset." Then, after distracting her with the line: "Hey, look at the ivy growing on that tree," (she totally fell for it), she turned around and Jake was down on one knee. He meant to say, "Lucy, I want to spend the rest of my life with you," but it ended up coming out like, "Lucy, you want to spend the rest of your life with me?" He still nailed the 'will you marry me?' portion, but that's just life for you... clumsy and beautiful!
