A Mostly True Account of the Courtship of Nick and Lucinda

By Nick

Our friend groups were brought together by chance in 2009, through one of my roommates who knew this apartment full of cute girls half a block away. The first time I saw Lucinda was at a housewarming party for their new place - we talked a bit on the balcony, then went our separate ways to see other friends as the year got started. Every subsequent party we attended together, we found ourselves gravitating to one another. But I was about to graduate, and neither of us wanted to get too serious, so we never pursued our obvious attraction into a relationship. The next year, I was living in Chicago and a bunch of friends came up for a music festival - including Lucinda. We spent the whole weekend together, far more caught up in one another than the heady atmosphere all around us. From there, it was a few months of flirtation and dating before we officially became a couple on January 14, 2011. Along the way, we've lived together, got a dog, each gone to grad school, moved across country, started new careers, and bought a house. We changed, evolved, challenged one another, and grew throughout that time, but we always held off on getting married. There was always something - school, or future job prospects, or Lucinda getting another cat - that we wanted to resolve before we made that leap. Which brings us to January 15, 2021. We have careers we're excited about. We were in the process of buying a home together. We had ten years of experience together, telling us that we worked. So I finally got the ring out, took Lucinda on a horse-drawn sleigh ride, and asked her to be my wife. Obviously, she said yes (or, more accurately: "I KNEW IT! Of course."), and now we're here today. It's already been over a decade of our relationship, and you've all been there for some part of it. We would love nothing more than to celebrate it with you all, and welcome you to our wedding - better late than never.
