Traditional Foods to try in Slovenia

🥟 Savory Dishes Žlikrofi – Little potato-filled dumplings from Idrija (like ravioli). Štruklji – Rolled dough with various fillings (cottage cheese, walnut, tarragon, apple). Served boiled, baked, or even fried. Jota – A hearty stew with sauerkraut/pickled turnip, beans, and potatoes. Matevž – Mashed beans and potatoes, often served as a side. Ajdovi Žganci – Buckwheat spoonbread, a rustic dish often served with mushroom sauce or milk. Bograč – A spicy goulash-style stew from Prekmurje, made with at least three types of meat. Carniolan Sausage (Kranjska klobasa) – Famous smoked sausage, usually served with mustard and bread. 🍯 Sweets & Desserts Potica – A festive rolled cake, most often with walnut filling (but also poppy seed, tarragon, honey…).
