Walk to the East end of camp toward Grace Lodge and locate the trail at the end of the road. Follow it until it ends at Petit Jean Mountain Rd. Carefully coss the street and walk a little farther east and you’ll come to Stouts Point Rd with abundant tree cover. Turn left onto it and follow it until the end! This is a peaceful place to enjoy the breathtaking view of the Arkansas River below and learn about the romantic legend of Petit Jean. Kelly loves visiting at sunrise!
Trail Type: Day Hikes Difficulty: Moderate, Strenuous Distance: 2 miles round trip Time: 1 1/2 - 2 hours hiking time Take a quick drive from Camp Mitchell to this scenic, moderate hike. Head west (left) out of the gates and drive 5.4 miles (~11 minutes) to Mather lodge in Petit Jean State Park. The trail begins behind the breezeway at Mather Lodge, a majestic CCC rustic style mountain lodge, and winds down into Cedar Creek Canyon. Massive stone boulders and large trees adorn the trailside. The trail then follows Cedar Creek to 95-foot Cedar Falls, one of the tallest continuously flowing waterfalls in the state. This is a photographer's paradise. (Orange Blazes)
Kelly and bridesmaid Larnie ate here every Thursday for 2 years. Her cousin, Alison won’t come to town without having it. It’s that damn good. Try a “stuffy with pink sauce” - a Chicago-style deep dish with the restaurant’s best sauce- classic marinera mixed with spicy white. It won’t disappoint, but be sure to bring an appetite! There are several locations- check google maps.
