Kelly was visiting New Orleans for a frisbee tournament and as it was the first weekend of her spring break, she decided to spend a few extra days in the Big Easy. When her housing plan for those days fell through, she reached out to the frisbee network and found a spare bedroom to crash in. Kelly pulled up to the welcoming home to find several boisterous New Orleans Party Posse members playing a game of corn hole and acting like they too were on spring break. She was introduced to Lucien, the guy wearing a Batman pajama onesie (complete with cape), sunglasses missing one lens, and wielding a pint glass full of wine, who was kind enough to offer up his guest bedroom for the next few days. There was an instant comfort between Lucien and Kelly and they quickly discovered they have a lot of shared interests- like a love of the Spanish language fostered by college semesters abroad in Santiago, Chile with the same director (but with different schools in different years!), traveling, and of course, ultimate frisbee. Kelly returned home to Kansas City, but the two kept in touch. Lucien accepted an urban planning job and moved to Seattle. After a year of visits and frisbee tournaments in Kansas City, Seattle, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Versailles, OH (pft, pft, pft) Kelly landed a teaching job in Seattle and made the long trek West, with Elfie the Wiener Dog in tow. Almost exactly 4 years after their meet-cute in New Orleans, Lucien came home from work early on Kelly’s birthday, got on one knee in their kitchen, and asked her to marry him. Without hesitation she said “of course”.
