We didn’t realize while driving on Highway 4, on July 5, 2018, that our paths would cross. Merisa lived in Benicia and Lucan lived in East Contra Costa County. Merisa was driving a Chevy Sonic while Lucan drove a Ford Expedition- not a fair competition. Merisa was looking for a place to move to, while Lucan was going to meet friends. Little did she know she would meet someone as head strong, and stubborn, as she was. Merisa was driving in the fast lane, and Lucan wanted to pass…in the fast lane. Merisa did not get the memo. Lucan proceeded to go around her, and in his own way, try to “Show someone what it’s like to be behind someone slow in the fast lane..” They were both hard headed. Merisa did not want to learn a lesson. Instead, she decided to go around him. They had met their match. They began racing each other on Highway 4. She tried to go in front of him; and he sped up. Merisa’s car clipped the passenger's side of the Lucan’s truck and spun around on the highway. Lucan stopped his truck near the median. Merisa thought that she was certainly in trouble, “This guys gotta be angry”. He walked across the stopped traffic towards Merisa on Highway 4. He looked at her, and with a surprising calm said, “Are you okay?” No trouble at all, instead, there was a spark. After confirming that everyone was ok they discussed insurance and decided that it wasn’t worth it. Then, after talking a bit more, they exchanged numbers. Then they hugged and agreed to contact one another when they got to their destination safely. When Merisa got home, Lucan called to check on her and let her know that he had arrived safely and confirmed that she had as well. He asked if she would like to meet, “for coffee or something.” Their first date was at a laundromat in Concord; it was a neutral, safe spot, far from freeways. They chatted and had dinner together while doing Lucan’s wash. Days after the road rage, and the laundry, they met for a walk around Lake Merritt. Lucan chanced reaching to hold his future’s hand and they strolled the path together. Since then, they have been inseparable, all the way to the altar. #MerisaLucanWed, #partylikearasmussen-cook, #crasherswedding, #accidentallyinlove
