We first crossed paths in 2016, thanks to a trending Snapchat game. Funny how something so simple turned into something so life-changing. After a few weeks of talking nonstop, fate stepped in and we ran into each other at the Georgia National Fair. Our first real date was a movie night to see Ouija: Origin of Evil. It wasn’t the most romantic film, but we were completely lost in each other. It felt like we had known one another forever, even though it had only been a few months. Not long after, we made it official and shared a beautiful milestone when we attended L’Tyra’s senior prom in 2017. From there, we were each other’s biggest supporters, celebrating high school graduations and sending each other off to college. That fall, L’Tyra headed to Valdosta State University, and we began our long-distance journey. A year later, Maurice kicked off his college basketball career at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City Beach, Florida. Even with the three-hour drive down winding back roads, L’Tyra never missed a chance to be at his games. We always found a way to be together, no matter how far apart we were. After earning his associate’s degree, Maurice transferred to Valdosta State in 2020, just as L’Tyra was starting her senior year. Being on the same campus brought us closer than ever. We shared everyday life, learned how to live together, and truly grew up side by side. We earned our degrees, built dreams, and deepened our love. It was during those years that we both knew this was it. We were meant to be. In 2023, we moved back home to take on the next chapter. L’Tyra began her career in the criminal justice field, while Maurice pursued his professional basketball career overseas. It was one of the hardest times in our relationship. Being apart in different countries wasn’t easy, but we leaned on FaceTime, late-night calls, and constant love to stay connected. That time apart tested us, but it also strengthened us. We grew not only as a couple, but as individuals, and came out even stronger. And then came the moment we had always dreamed about. Maurice proposed on May 11, 2024. We’re engaged!
