Daniel was bartending at a live-jazz-cabaret called 'Brian Newman After Dark" on 33rd St in New York City. Lauren's close friend and maid of honor, Nirah, was a dancer in the show (and a friend of Daniel's). One night, Lauren came to see the show with some other industry friends. Afterwards, they were led '2nd-line style' a-la New Orleans, into the adjoining space for drinks and dancing. An off-duty Daniel was contemplating leaving, but for some reason decided to stay. Lauren approached the bar seeking a spritz, and effectively stole Daniel's barstool. Lauren looked up to joke an apology, and when they locked eyes, that was it. Lauren broke for the dancefloor and Daniel quickly followed. After some time, both Lauren's group, and Daniel's then-off-duty pals traveled to a nearby club called 'Balcon' to dance the night away. At closing time, when both groups were set to part, Daniel sweetly asked for a kiss. The two then shared their first. The pair has been inseparable from then on.
