How It All Began

It started with a swipe to the right.

Despite being from the same small town, attending the same high school, and growing up blocks from each other, it took the wondrous creation of a dating app to bring us together. While It took us time to connect because of the distance, once we did, the connection was natural. Our first date in Santa Monica was an evening that felt like it could go on forever enjoying each others' company over margaritas and playing pool. Because we couldn't get enough of each other, we turned our short date into a date weekend. Thereafter we turned that into long distance dating from Sacramento to Los Angeles... and so our courtship began.

Bending the Knee

10.2.2021

It was late September 2021 in Lahaina, HI. Dan and Jess had been living apart for going on 5 months. The trip to Hawaii with family and friends entailed numerous celebrations. Little did Jess know that we’d be adding… one more. Like anyone proposing, Dan was waiting for the “right” moment, but had not determined what day or timing of when he’d spring the question. Although it took nearly the entire length of the vacation to get there, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. As the trip progressed, our reservations for a dinner on a beach at sunset looked promising, but fate had other plans. Sure, in the moment (and even now) telling everyone that we were so sun baked that we had to cancel sounds terrible but wait! The next day we found ourselves on a ferry to Lanai with our crew, nonchalantly putting in an offer on a house we had only seen videos of as our service expired into open waters. We both remember telling ourselves; “it doesn’t matter, we’ll just get outbid anyway”. A few hours later we were shelled to learn that our offer had been accepted! An incredible moment for us in our journey together, but Dan knew he could add some finishing touches. That night we made plans to celebrate together over dinner on the beach. To make a long story not as long, after a few glasses of sparkling and a fantastic meal we walked out to the tiki torch lit beach and Dan found his way to his knee… and the rest is history.
