We met our Sophomore year of college at Gonzaga University through mutual friends. We quickly became the type of friends who offered each other rides, dating advice, and the occasional house party invite, but that was really the extent of our time together. By our Junior year, we were almost inseparable; we ate lunch together, befriended each other's friends, talked on the phone for hours while we were home for breaks- we were basically dating without the title. Lyndsey was the first to fall, and she certainly did not hide it very well (she was, like, embarrassingly bad at hiding it). Caleb, on the other hand, did everything in his power to keep Lyndsey in the friendzone! Finally, on March 25, 2022, we met up for drinks at one of our favorite college bars (Jack and Dan's) and Caleb realized that he wanted our friendship to last a lifetime. Since then, we have moved in together, traveled the world together, adopted a kitten together (we love you, Simcoe!), and are ready to start the rest of our lives together. We have held so much love for each other long before we even knew what to do about it, and we will continue to fall more deeply in love every single day.
In May of 2024 the two of us had decided we were long overdue for a little weekend getaway. We drove to Seattle before hopping on the ferry to go to Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands. Caleb's family has a float home that we thought would be the perfect place to spend some time together (Caleb also thought it was the perfect place to surprise Lyndsey with the ring). Before going to bed our first night on the island, Caleb suggested that we go for an early morning sunrise walk up to town the next day... the forecast was a 90% chance of rain and completely overcast... yet he insisted. That morning, we walked up to a lookout point that we enjoyed the last time we had visited. We stood there admiring the view for some time until Caleb turned around and said, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you." Lyndsey responded (completely oblivious), "Yeah I know, I do too. That was a random thing to say." This was when Caleb got down on his knee, and Lyndsey stopped breathing, finally realizing what was going on. There were hundreds of "yes's," thousands of tears, and what seemed like millions of "oh my gosh, oh my gosh's." We went to the Rocky Bay Cafe right after for breakfast and a debrief all the excitement.
