Things To Do

A couple of things you might be interested in checking out during your stay in Darwin... Lorraine's recommendations. Be warned, when you visit Darwin, it will still be the Wet season (Novemberish- Aprilish), so be prepared for the heat, humidity and rain. In saying that, its usually a quieter time of year in the territory and is an opportunity to see the NT when it's lush with greenery, and epic lightening storms. It has a charm all its own - just remember to slip, slop slap and stay hydrated!

Parap Village Markets

3 Vickers Street, Parap, NT 0804, Australia
, +61 438 882 373

Unique Darwin experience. Parap markets is one of my favourite places to go when I’m home. Open Saturday mornings right throughout the year, experience a laska for breakfast, a mango shake or a light snack (my fave is poa pia! Can’t go past it even after all three years..) markets run until about early afternoon, but it’s best to go early before it gets too hot.

Crocosaurus Cove

58 Mitchell Street, Darwin City, NT 0800, Australia
, +61 8 8981 7522

You can’t come to Darwin and not doing something crocodile related. Crocosaurus is great for guests who aren’t staying very long but want to experience some iconIc territory wildlife. Book ahead and you can even swim with a big croc!

Crocodylus Park

815 McMillans Road, Berrimah, NT 0828, Australia
, +61 8 8922 4500

An oldie but a goodie, still very close to town, you can enjoy crocs as well as a selection of other animals. Feels a little more authentic compared to Crocosaurus.

The Original Adelaide River Queen Jumping Crocodile Cruises

3220A Arnhem Highway, Wak Wak, NT 0822, Australia
, +61 8 8988 8144

Another croc adventure - this one is a little further out of town so you’ll need a car, but it’s amazing! Cruise along the Adelaide river and see saltwater and freshwater (yes both!) in their native habitat and watch them jump for food! There are a number of providers for these tours, just search for ‘Adelaide river jumping crocodile’ - bookings are essential.

Aquascene fish feeding

28 Doctors Gully road, Darwin, NT 0820, Australia

This a fun one for kids, hand feed bread to wild fish - sounds random and it is a little bit...but can be entertaining.

Darwin Wave Pool

Kitchener Drive, Darwin City, NT 0800, Australia
, +61 8 8941 7260

I’m not into water but I’ve been told it can get a little hot in Darwin so a popular place to cool off is the wave pool. Lots of family fun and the whole waterfront area is quite lovely.

Stokes Hill Wharf

45 Stokes Hill Road, Darwin City, NT 0800, Australia
, +61 8 8999 5155

An oldie but a goodie! Go for a casual dinner at the wharf, enjoy watching people fish , the cool breeze and the beautiful Darwin sunset. Bring cash as lots of places are cash only.

Litchfield National Park

Litchfield Park Road, Litchfield Park, NT 0822, Australia
, +61 8 8976 0282

You’ll need a car for this one, but it’s worth it. Swim in the rock pools and waterfalls. You can also camp - but do your research first!

Kakadu National Park

Kakadu Highway, Jabiru, NT 0886, Australia
, +61 8 8938 1120

You’ll need a car and a little bit of time.

Nitmiluk National Park

Gorge Rd, Nitmiluk, NT 0852, Australia
, +61 8 8972 1886

Probably an overnight trip required and you’ll need a car. Check out Katherine gorge.

Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory

19 Conacher Street, The Gardens, NT 0820, Australia
, +61 8 8999 8264

A great way to find out more about Darwin’s history and culture.

Darwin Waterfront Precinct

19B Kitchener Drive, Darwin City, NT 0800, Australia
, +61 8 8999 5155

A great place to check out, have some drinks or dinner. There is the wave pool (that get its own special mention) but the precinct in general is just a nice place to hang out.

For all the days along the way
