Please dress formally. No black, and no white. Tuxes and gowns are welcome, and so are suits and cocktail dresses. Keep in mind that Bulgaria is very hot in the summer (34C) , so if you're wearing a suit, you might want to wear a linen-blend shirt to keep you cool when you take your jacket off. Colours welcome, patterns welcome. We want you to be comfortable, as there will be lots of dancing, but this can also be an occasion for you to wear that outfit you never have anywhere to wear!
We're saving up for a honeymoon! We don't have a registry, and our small London flat is at full space capacity for the moment, but we would appreciate cash gifts on the day. Feel free to gift in either British Pounds or Euro.
You'll want to bring some small cash for the wedding (smaller euro coins), as some of the traditions involve "pay to play". Bulgaria is now part of the Eurozone, so they will take EURO everywhere. Cash is king here. The most authentic experiences will probably only take cash, so make sure you're prepared. Also, you'll notice that carrying lots of cash in your wallet makes you feel a lot richer ;)
Bulgaria does not have Uber! For cabs, use Yellow Taxi (use the Yellow Taxi app), TaxiMe (use the app), OkSupertrans, Green Taxi, Panda Taxi, Radio CB Taxi, Volt Premium (more expensive). Always check the prices before you get on, as there are some scammers around.
Of course! If you do book one, make sure you're in the centre, so it's easier for you to get to the shuttle on the day of the wedding. Airbnbs in Lozenets neighbourhood are also close and well-connected.
The BEST people, once you understand our vibe. Listen, baby, this is Eastern Europe, so don't expect hugs and big smiles on the street. We can't let anyone know that we are happy on the inside. There might be stares, especially if you are beautiful, eccentric, or visibly foreign (and all of our guests are beautiful, so be prepared). I am very biased and went to read reviews about our nation, and on average we get 4 stars. You'll find that we are hospitable, very friendly and welcoming, and will always try to speak to you, even if our English is not great. Some reviews include: "Bulgarians can be both insufferably rude and unbelievably charming." So if you find beauty in juxtaposition, then you're in the right place!
We would like for you to keep phone use to a minimum on the day; try to be in the moment as much as possible. You are welcome to take some pictures on your phone with your friends and loved ones during the cocktail and the party, but please keep your phones away during the ceremony and the dinner. Cameras are, however, very welcome! If you have a camera, bring it, take pics and send them to us later! <3
