Encinitas Fish Shop

Our go-to for the best fish tacos. They have two other locations in Pt. Loma and Pacific Beach, in case you're closer to another one.

La Puerta Mission Hills

Best daily happy hour, hands down. BJ loves the one place you can still get a $2 Tecate. They have a location downtown if you are staying closer to there.

Herb & Wood

Loren first took BJ here for his first birthday we spent together. They gave us the corner table of the main dining room and its been "our table" ever since. The couple also celebrated their post-proposal engagement dinner here.

South Beach Bar & Grille

Another good spot for fish tacos with great daily deals and an especially sweet view of the ocean. Go for sunset.

Board & Brew - Del Mar

Born in 1979, Board & Brew's OG spot has been serving surfers and locals for all of Loren's existence. She has been loving the sandwich spot since 1995 and took BJ for his first time within a month of dating. B&B has since expanded so there's likely one closer to you if you're not up for heading to Del Mar.

In-N-Out Burger

IYKYK. When Loren asked, what else should we recommend, both BJ & one of his besties, Suerth, both declared this SoCal cult fave, almost in unison. In one of Loren's past chapters as a carnivorous NY resident, it was her must every time she came home for a visit from the The Big Apple. As there's often a line for the drive-thru, try to either and off-peak meal time or parking and ordering inside.

Torrey Pines State Beach

Where BJ and Loren went for their first hike/second date. Loren's family has lived in the area since 1993, so North County is her old stomping grounds.

It's just so pretty here. Admire the seals, but do so from afar as they can get a little snappy.
