There's lots of cute little shops, restaurants and bars in quaint downtown Clayton, which is within walking distance from our venue- the Thousand Islands Harbor Hotel, in Clayton, NY. We recommend checking out the Wood Boat Brewery, Bellas, O'Brien's, Channelside, The Boat Yard, Garland City Beer Works, Lyric Coffee House, and more!
Located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, the Antique Boat Museum features the largest collection of antique and classic boats on display in North America! While visiting the museum you can learn about boating history on the St. Lawrence River, row a St. Lawrence skiff in French Bay, tour George Boldt’s historic two-story houseboat and take a speedboat ride through the islands in a triple cockpit runabout. See website for event and educational programming information.
This 120-room Rhineland-style castle and yacht house built at the turn of the 20th century are the 1000 Islands region’s top attraction. Boldt Castle is the story of one man’s devotion to his beloved wife. Wander the halls and imagine what could have been if tragedy had not struck. The castle is accessible by tour boat, water taxi and private watercraft and handicap accessible. The wedding party will be heading here for wedding portraits!
Consider taking Uncle Sam's Boat Tours or Clayton Island Tours for a river cruise, or to visit Boldt Castle! Local tour companies take visitors past fairytale castles, historic lighthouses and stately mansions that take you back to the area’s heyday as a playground for the rich and famous. Stories of pirates and bootleggers, industry titans and secret societies await. Sightseeing cruises can include stops at Boldt and/or Singer Castle, and Rock Island Lighthouse. For a different option, take a lunch cruise or pair an evening sunset cruise with dinner on board. Tours depart from several communities along each side of the border. Cruising companies regularly host thematic cruises centered to fun, education and experiencing the culinary assets of the region.
