How We Met

2011 & 2018

We met in 2011 when Annelise brought her "work friend" to happy hour at Waxy O'Connor's. It was quite literally love at first sight for Luis, it was for Ana too, she just needed more time to realize it... approximately 7 years, but who's counting? (Luis was). Ana came to find out later that Luis had professed his appreciation for "Ms. Long" to all of his friends, and at some point even told his mother that he had met the woman he was going to marry. Turns out he was right! Luis loves to tease Ana about this with relative frequency but she always reminds him that the best things in life are worth the wait :) Fast forward to 2018 when Ana had two additional tickets to a JT concert. Our mutual friend (shout out Flavia) wanted to go and asked if anyone wanted to join her. Luis (an *Nsync/JT fan in his own right), decided he would sign up and join her. Perhaps it was the soothing JT music or perhaps it was the vodka (it was probably the vodka), but the innocent flirtations had stepped up a notch during the evening. After the show the friend that joined Ana at the concert (shout out Cristina), happened to mention she was getting married in Spain the next year. Luis being Luis, decided to invite himself to that wedding (of course he did) and Cristina being Cristina, responded that he was welcome, but only as Ana's plus one. A few days later Luis asked Ana out to dinner, and as the kids say, the rest is history! P.S. Luis did go to Cristina's wedding as Ana's plus one and they've been each other's plus ones for all the weddings they've attended ever since.

The Proposal

10.3.2020

Luis initially planned to propose on our 2 year anniversary, 5/26/2020. He was planning for a weekend at The Breakers; he'd play golf, she'd get a massage, and we'd have brunch on Sunday. We'd walk around the gardens, he'd propose before brunch and then our friends and family would be waiting for us to celebrate. What is it that they say about best laid plans? That of course did not work out (shout out COVID). The Breakers brunch was closed, and of course, there were stay at home orders. He scrapped the plan and had to wait for another opportunity in which we'd have an excuse to get dressed up and go out to dinner. That next time ended up being Ana's birthday. Luis made reservations at a restaurant by the water (suspiciously early - who eats dinner at 6:30pm?!). He got his haircut and washed his car, then subsequently suggested we take an Uber (weird). Needless to say, Ana had her suspicions. When we arrived at the restaurant, we sat down and ordered some drinks. Ana noticed Luis seemed to be looking around for something/someone and looking at his phone. Luis suggested we take pictures by the water before we ate, so that "we'd look good in the pictures". Luis grabbed his phone and handed it to a photographer that "just happened" to be in the area taking pictures. Ana walked towards the bay to get ready for the photo and when she turned around she saw Luis was down on one knee with an open ring box. "I've been wanting to ask you this since the moment I met you, will you marry me?" is what Ana later found out Luis said when he proposed. As to not bury the lede, Ana said yes! After our engagement photo session with the good samaritan photographer that was totally there by coincidence, we had dinner and then met with our friends to celebrate our engagement. Now we can't wait to share our special day with everyone!
