So, we first met on line. No, not the kind of on-line you’re thinking about... We met on an actual old-school line! We were strangers in single file waiting to enter the Sistine Chapel in Rome, Italy. A few spots in front of me, a dazzling girl in a striped candy cane red dress immediately caught my eye. I was traveling alone and thought to myself that I would love to strike up a conversation with her, but alas, there were two other ladies between us, and it would have been rude to try to skip the line. Luckily, an opportunity presented itself. Some tour guides appeared, selling tickets for a "skip the line" tour package. Out of a combination of curiosity and boredom, I decided to entertain one of them by asking for the price and what was included. It wasn't worth it. He was persistent in his solicitations, but I was persistent in my refusal, and he eventually left. It was then that the ladies in front of me, who were Malaysian and English-speaking, struck up a conversation with me about how persistent those guys were. That’s when the girl in the candy cane dress turned around and joined the conversation as well. I couldn’t believe my luck! We four introduced ourselves and chatted about our travels, until it was our turn to enter. At the counter, while Hana and I paid for the tickets, the two ladies walked ahead. During the tour and after, we tried to look for those two ladies, but couldn't find them at all. It was strange, as though they’d vanished without a trace. To this day, I like to think of them as angels whose mission was to unite us. After Vatican City, Hana and I took a long walk to a pasta place for lunch. We talked about everything under the sun, connecting on so many topics about life and happiness. Afterwards we wandered around, lost in each other’s company, and ended up on the steps of a beautiful park. There, we discovered that we both dance tango and have sweaty hands! What are the chances? It truly is a match made in heaven.
