Question

What is the currency conversion? What is the currency conversion?

Answer

Currently the US dollar equals approximately 18 South African Rand. Meaning the exchange for our foreign guests is extremely favourable.

Question

How do I get South African currency? How do I get South African currency?

Answer

Our best recommendation is to use a credit card without foreign transaction fees for most purchases. Preferably Visa or Mastercard as those are most widely accepted in South Africa. It is good to have some cash on hand for smaller purchases - which can be ordered through your local bank as a foreign currency order. A hundred US dollars worth of Rand or so, will be more than enough to have in cash. It is not recommended to travel with large sums of cash in South Africa.

Question

What is the weather like in Cape Town in May?What is the weather like in Cape Town in May?

Answer

It is good to know that South Africa will be transitioning into winter in May. So while it may be a beautiful sunny day, the evenings do get cold. Note for our foreign guests, central heating is not prevalent in buildings so plan to bring clothes for layering. Cape Town is also notorious for changing weather on a whim (always a possibility for rain too). For reference, the weather in the first week of May 2024 was in the range of 53F-73F (11-23 celcius). So definitely plan to bring some warm attire just in case.
