#1 Recommendation: (Directly next door to the reception site, Hibernian Hall) Average price range for December around $240-$279. Please visit hotel website for specific amenities and services. The original Mills House was built in 1853, at shocking price of 200,000. At the beginning of the Civil War, it served as the field headquarters for Robert E. Lee. Surprisingly, the hotel survived the Great Fire of 1861, the Civil War, and the earthquake of 1886. It was later visited by Theodore Roosevelt in 1902, who incidentally stayed in the same room as Robert E. Lee had some 40 years before. As other hotels were built during the first half of the 20th century, the Mills House fell into a state of disrepair and was sold at auction in 1968. The hotel was forced to rebuild and was faithfully restored to its original glory. Luckily some of the hotel’s most iconic architectural elements were saved, including the original iron exterior that forms the balcony.

Average price range is $170-199 The Francis Marion Hotel is an exceptional hotel named for South Carolina Revolutionary war hero, the “Swamp Fox” Francis Marion. The Francis Marion was built in 1924, and although considered “newer” by downtown Charleston standards, at almost a hundred years old it's still a top choice in terms of location, great service, and historic charm. This hotel borders Marion Square, is 0.3 miles from the church, (approximately 2 blocks away) and listed as a 7-minute walk. For more information please see the first "FAQ" regarding Marion Square.

Courtyard Marriott is another hotel facing Marion Square. It’s an excellent location, and the closest (0.2 miles) to the church. (Roughly a block and a half, listed as a 5-minute walk). For more information please see the first "FAQ" regarding Marion Square.

This is the 3rd of our hotel recommendations bordering Marion Square. If you are a military history buff, you might strongly consider this hotel. This location is actually a Civil War monument! Built in 1829, it was officially turned over to the Citadel, South Carolina’s Military College in 1843. The Citadel moved their location a few blocks over to the land bordering Ashley River in 1922, and in 1994 the property was purchased and turned into an Embassy Suites Hotel. The hotel is like staying in a museum. However, if you plan to take in one of the many Ghost Tours in Charleston, you may also want to consider staying here! One room has reportedly had so many issues, it is available to guests only if the hotel is full! The hotel’s most talked about "resident soldier” doesn’t seem to mind his misfortune. Those who claim to have encountered him report that he has a quite a joyful demeanor! For more information please see the first "FAQ" regarding Marion Square.

Room rates vary, $350 and up For a little more luxury, Charleston Place is generally acknowledged to be one of Charleston’s finest hotels. A hotel reviewer put it best, “Whether passing under the giant crystal chandelier while on the way to a fine restaurant, shopping in the lobby stores, or gliding up the sweeping dual staircase to a luxury room, the hotel leaves no need unanswered.” Charleston has, in recent years, become a frequent filming location for several movie studios, and Charleston Place often becomes a home away from home for the celebrities. Inside, you can visit the shops of Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Tommy Bahama and many more. Step outside and you are in the prime shopping district on King St. The hotel is within walking distance of fine dining, organized walking tours, King Street antique district, art galleries, museums, the waterfront, and the open-air markets. Charleston Place is roughly 2 1/2 blocks from the reception site, 0.3 miles, and less than a 5-minute walk.

Room rates vary, start at $450. Built in 1886 as a residence, Wentworth Mansion is unapologetically grand. Imagine being able to stay in a mansion fit for a Rockefeller, complete with 14-foot ceilings, Tiffany windows, hand-carved molding, huge marble fireplaces, gargantuan pocket doors, crystal chandeliers, and a rooftop cupola with sweeping views out over the city. Wentworth Mansion is also usually listed in the top of travel “best of” lists, frequently a top 10 in the U.S. Wentworth Mansion is approximately 0.9 miles from Hibernian Hall, and a 4-5 minute drive.
