Marion Square is a green space in the Historic District of downtown Charleston. It is what remains of a 10-acre parcel conveyed to the colony of South Carolina in 1758. It borders three main thoroughfares in downtown Charleston and is surrounded by several recommended hotels. All the hotels located near Marion Square could possibly be considered "walkable" to the church. These three hotels are approximately 1-2 blocks from the Church, and 7-8 blocks north of the reception location, however we would still recommend using Uber or Lyft to get from the church to the reception.
Mount Pleasant is a suburb of Charleston, just across the bridge from the Historic District. For our Georgia friends who may not be familiar with Charleston, Mount Pleasant has a very “Alpharetta” type of identity, and there is quite a bit to do and see. (And if you're not familiar with Atlanta, just know that Mount Pleasant is probably the safest suburb in the greater Charleston area.)
The Yorktown/Patriots Point area is just across the bridge and is about 5 1/2 miles, or 10 minutes from The Hibernian. Roughly speaking, these hotels are equal distance from the downtown area and our beaches. The USS Yorktown and Patriots Point is a must do for WW2 military history buffs, offering several different tour options, including a full tour of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. Shem Creek is also close by and offers incredible seafood restaurant choices with amazing views. While at Shem Creek, you can arrange for paddle boarding, and it’s not at all uncommon for dolphins to join you! This end of Mount Pleasant offers great shopping, and two of our area beaches are about 15-20 minutes away! Though it's going to be December, we’ve spent many Christmases wearing shorts and blasting the air conditioner, so don’t discount a good winter walk on the beaches of Sullivan’s Island or Isle of Palms.
The area near Mount Pleasant's Towne Centre Mall is 9 miles, or about a 15-minute drive from The Hibernian. Towne Centre Mall is an upscale shopping area that is outdoors, similar to the Forum at Peachtree Parkway in Atlanta. This area is also located near one of the two main arteries that lead to the beach! You can reach Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms in about 10-15 minutes from these locations. It's as close as you will get to being "near the beach" without actually being on the islands. A few other suggestions here include the Cambria Hotel Mount Pleasant- $135, Tru by Hilton at Mount Pleasant Center- $139, Hampton Inn and Suites Charleston/Mount Pleasant- $139, Courtyard by Marriott, Mount Pleasant- $144.
If you are really looking for a beach getaway, there are literally thousands of options located on the Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island. There are no national hotel chains located there, but If you are interested in looking into a condo or beach house for the weekend, we suggest checking into VRBO for some excellent choices. There is ONE actual hotel on the Isle of Palms, locally owned, and it is beachfront: The Palms Oceanfront Hotel- $150
There are several options, all located in Summerville, which is about 25-30 minutes from downtown Charleston off of I-26, the main artery leading away from the Charleston area. All of these are VERY new hotels, built within the last year or so, and immediately off I-26. They are located in Azalea Square and Nexton, and border both sides of the interstate. Both Azalea Square and Nexton have many restaurant and shopping choices, but all are in the same immediate area. Homewood Suites by Hilton- $164 Staybridge Suites Summerville- $106 Home2 Suites by Hilton- $130 Courtyard by Marriott Summerville/Charleston- $165 Hilton Garden Inn Summerville- $153 Cambria Hotel Summerville-$127 Residence Inn by Marriott- $165 One additional hotel, while not new, is in the same exact area and a bargain!
