Medbery Marketplace opened in 2010 and is located in Historic Roscoe Village – a restored canal era town that was once a bustling port along the Ohio & Erie Canal from 1830 through 1913. The market is owned and operated by the McKenna family. We have been in the deli and market business for a long time – starting with Unusual Junction in nearby Coshocton County back in the 1970s. Our store is located in the restored Roscoe Hotel (circa 1856). The building was built by Arnold Medbery and it replaced Medbery’s earlier, wood framed hotel (built 1832) that burned. This building was also a stagecoach stop and was believed to have been on the Underground Railroad. The building housed retail businesses on the main level, sleeping rooms on the second and third floors, and a ballroom on the top floor. Over the years the building has had many businesses, including the Roscoe Hardware Store that was an icon in the Village throughout the later part of the 1900s.
"Prospect Place" was the home of the George Willison Adams family of Dresden, Ohio, in the 19th & 20th centuries. This structure is currently in the process of being restored. In the 1850s and 1860s the house was a station on the "Underground Railroad". Although a few fine homes remain in Dresden from this era, Prospect Place is the last remaining Dresden area mansion (There were five: Prospect Place; River Dale; Mulberry Grove; Maple Hollow and Elm Grove), the others have met the fate of time and neglect and are no more. These were the homes of the "Lords of the Valley", men of great influence and wealth who helped tame a new land and create a community. We are restoring this home as a memorial to times gone by and to give the Dresden area back a piece of an ever-vanishing history.

Muskingum Recreational Trail is approximately six miles of asphalt trail connecting the Village of Dresden in Jefferson Township to Rock Cut Road in Muskingum Township. Much of the trail follows the Muskingum River and offers exceptional views of huge rock formations and myriad wildlife watching opportunities for bald eagles, turkey, beaver, and more. Funding for the construction of the first four miles of trail came from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Transportation Enhancement Program. In December 2011 new trail was opened through the Village of Dresden. The new trail was built with a grant from the Clean Ohio Trails Fund which is administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Next phase of trail development will be a section located between Rock Cut Road and Ellis Dam Road. This piece will connect to a short section south of Ellis Dam Road and includes a restored railroad bridge which overlooks the Muskingum River and historic Lock 11 at Ellis Dam State Park.
