Lydia and Tim were both on New Years holiday trips when they ended up staying at the same hostel in Brussels, Belgium. Lydia was traveling alone, and was clever enough to leave a note to fellow travelers staying in the room. Tim, also traveling alone, luckily found the note, and the two met up for dinner and Belgian beer that night. They then toured the city's nightlife and the rest of the city the following day before heading to Bruges. It was perhaps here that the two realized they already had a unique and special connection. Although it was a coincidental meeting, it couldn't stop there. It started with snapchats and whatsapp messages of subsequent travel adventures, that eventually grew to several-hours-long FaceTime movie dates after they went back to their homes of London and LA. They kept this up for a while, but when Lydia took her trip to New Zealand Tim decided he had to join, and met her there for her last two weeks. They rented a campervan and toured the beautiful South and North Islands of NZ. It was an unforgettable 2nd date. Lydia had also surprised Tim on Valentine's Day by booking a trip to Los Angeles for Tim's 30th birthday. They also toured the West Coast, from Vancouver Island all the way down to LA, and visited Tim's hometown in Ohio. Next was Tim's turn to visit London. Action-packed as usual, this trip also took them to visit Lydia's hometown, as well as a side trip (1 day!) to Prague. The travels and the growing connection continued until...
The long distance romance continued, and they returned to Bruges after Christmas to celebrate their anniversary. They were finally able to take a horse and carriage ride which they had wanted the year before. Then, on a canal bridge just like the one where Lydia had said one year prior, "This is so romantic, don't you dare propose to me," Tim did just that.
