This is a lovely network of walking trails through woods and an old granite quarry. It's pretty flat so suitable for children and those who prefer a leisurely pace.
Climb Blue Hill for a great view of the bay. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the top. There are a few different trails, but the Hayes Trail has a parking lot at the trailhead.
This is the place to swim or picnic, and it's right down the street from the Peabody house! It's a private beach and there's no bathroom facility, so feel free to walk up to the Peabody house to use the bathroom. The door is always open.
On Saturday morning, the Blue Hill Farmer's Market is the place to be! Grab a delicious Tinder Hearth pastry and a cup of coffee. Horsepower Farm has the sweetest carrots you'll ever taste, and Blue Zee Farm's greens are unbeatable. Usually the market is at the fairgrounds, but since the fair is in town this weekend you'll find it in the parking lot of the Congregational Church. Hours are 9 - 11:30 AM.
If you've read Charlotte's Web, you may remember Templeton the rat's account of this very fair! It's got it all: midway rides, livestock judging, and the skillet toss. This is also where Rufus Peabody acquired a baby pig without parental permission circa 1995. Full fair schedule is here: https://www.bluehillfair.com/schedule.php
Take a day trip for spectacular hiking in Acadia and good food in Bar Harbor. Tom Peabody's favorite trails: Acadia Mountain, Sargent Mountain, Beehive and Beech Mountain.
This is quite simply the greatest bookstore in the world. Lose yourself here.
Full of jewelry and artwork by local artists.
This is the local health food store and cafe. It's the perfect place to grab a sandwich on your way out for a hike. They also have plenty of groceries if you're cooking in.
Espresso and drip coffee, roasted in-house.
Wine, beer, fancy cheeses, and more!
The Arborvine is the fanciest restaurant in Blue Hill, so you'll need a reservation. Deepwater Brew Pub serves mussels and beer next door. Pick whichever suits your mood!
It's a barn! It's a castle! Whatever it is, there's drinks and bar food inside.
Fried food, lobster rolls, soft serve: The Staples.
This is PJ's favorite place, possibly in the world. Eat lobster on a dock. BYOB. Need we say more? (Oh yes, bring a sweater.)
There's a reason this place has been around for 70 years and was the password to all the Peabody family computers. Check their facebook page to make sure they're open before driving out though: https://m.facebook.com/bagaduce/
