Looking to see our granite quarries overlooking some beautiful sites? This is a perfect spot for a short nature walk, picnic, and some nice scenery. The parking lot does cost about $5 (unless you have a MA state park sticker) and fills up fast, but definitely worth the trip! On clear days, the outlook can see all the way up to the Maine coastline.
Check out Rockport’s downtown, the art association, and the dozens of local art galleries & shops. There are plenty of shops - Tuck’s candy, Lulus Pantry, The Village Silversmith (support Liz’s lovely former employers there), or so many other options! Rockport’s Motif #1 is a historically known building because of how frequently it’s been painted. Please shop local! Downtown can be tricky to find parking and it’s metered. If you are planning on spending a lot of time down there, consider parking at the Transfer Station and taking the trolley system downtown.
If you’re looking for a beach day, this is one of the most popular beaches in the area. This past year, you had to reserve your parking weeks in advance. If you plan on a beach day, check to see if you have to reserve in advance. Parking lot fills up quickly, so plan to arrive early.
If you’re staying in the area for the weekend and the ocean is nice and calm, this island or Straitsmouth are nice islands off the coast of Rockport to either get a boat to bring you out (will look into the schedule for this) or rent kayaks in downtown Rockport to take them out (if you’re comfortable with a longer ~2 mile round trip) ocean kayaking. (Please wear life jackets and be safe if you choose this route- per Liz) .
Looking for a beautiful castle/historic tour? This is about 20 minutes away in Gloucester and is a fun option- rain or shine.
Downtown Rockport is one of the country’s oldest artist colony. Check out rockport’s downtown, the art association, and the dozens of local art galleries & shops.
We happen to really love the former president of this organization - Randy Saville 😊 - so we couldn’t not include this one on the list.
If you’re interested in catching a whale watch and have better sea legs than the two of us, make reservations for Cape Ann Whale Watch!
Interested in apple picking or cider donuts?! This is about 30 min away from the venue
Enjoy a coffee and/or donut (or two or three)
