Liz and Sam met at a birthday party in Indianapolis. Their mutual friend Nick was playing matchmaker and had planned for the two of them to get together. After that fateful night, Sam kept inviting Liz to do fun things like rock climbing, kayaking, and visiting art galleries. One day they went out with a group of friends who strategically left the two of them alone at a bar, and that's when the magic happened! For the past four years, they have been inseparable, making a home in Indianapolis, adopting a dog, supporting each other through career changes and grad school, and exploring the world together. Thanks to those sneaky friends!

Sam planned a trip to the adorably tiny town of Story, Indiana in Brown County over Liz's fall break. As Sam and Liz were hiking around the Brown County State Park, Sam kept asking Liz to stop and look at vista points, but Liz kept saying no because she wanted to get back to Story to eat dinner. Sam finally convinced her to sit on a picnic table and take in the view before leaving. He also told her that she looked really pretty, which Liz thought was odd since she was wearing one of Sam's giant flannel shirts and had not washed her hair. As Sam reached into his bag, to presumably pull out a sandwich to offer to his hungry girlfriend, he instead took out a little blue box. After this moment, Liz doesn't remember much else because her brain turned to mush. Somehow she managed a "Yes!" and here we are!
