As is common with many millennial couples, Liza and Cameron met on a dating app after both had previously sworn they would 'never go on a dating app.' After Cam arranged their first date, which Liza canceled due to a snowstorm, he set up a 'second-first date.' Liza was immediately impressed when their planned date location was unexpectedly hosting a Britney Spears fan club night, and Cam, quick on his feet, came up with a Plan B before she even arrived. It’s unclear if Cam was equally impressed when Liza bamboozled him by showing up in a walking boot and having to explain how she broke her ankle. What was initially ‘let’s meet for a drink’ turned into a five-hour-long first date where Liza confirmed that–despite not having grown up with dogs–Cam would be open to getting a dog someday. Cam, for his part, confirmed that–despite the initial challenge of meeting up–Liza would be worth the effort for their 'first-second date', at the very least. Liza and Cam spent the next several months getting to know each other and quickly learned that their two very different personalities meshed like tacos and margs (which, coincidentally, is what they enjoyed on the night they met). Both with a love for travel, adventure and food, it wasn’t long until two lives became intertwined into one of a lot of flights, sights, and dishes (sorry, Cam). On a rainy Sunday in September, their three-year mark approaching, Cam convinced Liza to turn a blind eye to her typical Sunday chores and join him on a hike to see the fall colors. If you know Liza, you know taking her away from a Sunday routine was no easy feat. Only after a prepared breakfast in bed and assurance that the hike would be no longer than 5-miles so she could get her weekly grocery shop in, did Liza agree to go. Little did she know, the hike he had actually planned would be much, much longer. Cam endured three hours of non-stop complaints and sarcastic jokes by Liza, who clearly had no clue what was going on. A personal favorite, in regard to Cam's bright orange rain jacket: “Well, we won’t have to worry about any mountain lions attacking us, they’d never go near that jacket!” Or, when arriving at the exact lookout spot that they would soon get engaged in: “I imagine that’d be a gorgeous view if you picked a nicer day to go on a hike!” Taking each comment in stride and with a big smile on his face, Cam finally got Liza to stop talking, got down on one knee, and surprised her with an intimate proposal, just the two of them around. It turns out Colorado hikers are averse to the rain, making the secluded hike all the more special. Needless to say, there were no more complaints on the hike down, and the grocery shopping did not get done.
