“Robbie was actually supposed to be a blind date set up for me for a sorority date party but it fell through last minute. He ended up messaging me through Facebook a few weeks afterwards and we hadn’t stopped talking since! He originally wanted me to come to Fry Street -- the street in Denton full of the college bars famous for their 'Dollar Dubs' (on Wednesdays at the time; just to age us a bit) -- but I had to decline since I was a goody goody without a fake ID and was only 18 at the time, so the only bar we could meet at would be the always overpriced and lame Garage. A few days after consistent texting however, we were finally able to meet in person at my dorm at the University of North Texas. He came and picked me up to hang out for a bit between class and having to go to my sorority's weekly meeting. I scared him by taking my hair extensions out and he stole my heart with the first big hug he gave me. And well... the rest is sort of history!”
“I was supposed to go on a blind date with Katrina at one of her sorority events, but I didn’t end up getting to go because the hockey team had away games against the University of Texas in Austin. I ended up adding her on Facebook because I still wanted to meet her. It took me a few days to actually build up the courage to talk to her. With the help of my friends I messaged her on Facebook and talked on there for a few minutes. I was going to go out to the bar with some of the guys that night and I gave Katrina my phone number so she could text or call me. When I gave her my number I made a dumb joke and instantly regretted it. I made a Carly Rea Jepsen reference (She is the one who sang the “so call me maybe” song). Lucky for me, Katrina thought my reference was so bad that it was funny. We started talking and hanging out with each other and everything just clicked so easily. It must have been obvious to everyone else as well because one time I was hanging out with the boys and they were talking about going out to meet girls. I told them I would be there to be a good wing man and I was told that since I was “wifed up” I wouldn’t be much help going out with them to meet girls. I guess they were right because I’m finally going to marry the girl that finds my terrible jokes funny.”
“Robbie told me one day during the week that one of his friends wanted to grab brunch with us that Saturday. Of course because it was brunch, I was pumped! (I am always down for brunch just in case anyone was wondering; ask me to go to brunch and the answer is always YES.) The day arrived and I went about my normal morning. Robbie had said that he was going to hang out with friends at their apartment one floor down from ours until I was ready and to text him when I was coming down. I was almost ready when suddenly he called and told me they had decided to hang out on the rooftop lounge of our apartment since it was such a nice day. Not surprising to me because the Sky Lounge is super pretty and a nice place to just relax and pre-game a good brunch. I finished getting ready and walked to the lounge. I am greeted by thousands of rose petals surrounding Robbie and the Dallas Skyline behind him. I at first was sort of confused thinking that maybe someone was all romantic the night before, but then I suddenly realized that Robbie had placed the petals there! He then speaks the most beautiful words: 'Will You Marry Me?' I immediately take the the ring he had made and said yes. And of course, I bawled. After fixing my makeup, we went to brunch where I was surprised again with our very own engagement brunch! It was truly an amazing day.”
“I’d been thinking about ways to propose for the past 3 years. I wanted it to be some place that means a lot to both of us. At our apartment complex there is a sky lounge that has a little patio and you can see the Dallas skyline from there. Dallas has always been very special to me and it became even more special when we signed a lease here. The plan was to tell Katrina that we were going to brunch with some of my friends. I didn’t make it out to be a big deal because I had to make sure that it was going to be a surprise for her. That is literally the one thing she said she wanted: a surprise. In order for me not to lie to her, I decided that we would do a brunch so I was telling the truth, and it was also a way to get Katrina to get ready for the day earlier than she normally would. I’m very thankful for all my friends helping me get in touch with everyone that came out and for getting the reservation for a group of about 18 people. I ordered 3000 rose petals that I could put on the patio ground. This is when I learned that when you order flower petals online, they do not come separated. The night before I got to separate all of those petals individually which gave me time to think about what I was going to say and second guess everything I wanted to tell her. That morning when Katrina started getting ready, I went out to the patio to spread the petals and then told her that all my friends were meeting there. It was after I finished putting them all on the ground that I realized that it takes Katrina forever to get ready. I stood there for probably 30 minutes waiting for her to come. Finally, she came out and time kind of stopped for a moment. All the things that I wanted and planned on saying went out of my head because of my nerves. We got to talk for a minute and then I got down on a knee and asked her to marry me. I’m very happy she said yes because if she would have said no, it would have really put a damper on the brunch.”
