Victor and Claire met as teammates on the Illinois Wesleyan Swim team in 2015. After throwing Claire in the pool several times, Victor summoned the courage to ask Claire on their first date. At the end of swim season, they decided to try working as teammates in real life. As a team often does, they learned to work together through the highs and lows, including several years of long-distance dating, multiple cross-country moves, graduate school, a global pandemic, and the addition of an adorably squishy-faced little dog. On May 28, 2022, Victor took Claire to see the Minneapolis scultpure garden, a Lugg family landmark and locaton of their annual Christmas card photos. In front of the giant cherry on a spoon, Victor got down on one knee and asked Claire to become his teammate for life. Claire happily agreed, and the two are excited to continue building their life together!
