We were both lucky enough to have some mutual contacts who thought we might be perfect for one another, and they were right! Lissa worked with a friend who was dating Chester's roommate at the time. After meeting Chester, she suggested we all get together to play cornhole and BBQ. Naturally, we both played on the same board and bonded quickly while listening to country music, drinking beer, and saying the most inappropriate sarcastic comments we could possibly come up with to each other throughout the game. That was it, and we both knew it pretty soon after that amazing, yet simple encounter.
Well this story isn't crazy or exciting, but that's very fitting for us both. As most know, Chester got a promotion this year with his longtime company Discount Tire. This brought us to making the difficult, yet exciting decision to move to Glenwood Springs to begin a new adventure. He was leaving the next day which meant we would be separated for about a month while I finished finalizing things in Denver before I moved there as well. It was Chester's 30th birthday, and I had planned a little get together in Morrison with friends and family to both celebrate his birth and say goodbye. We spent the afternoon there, and then headed home with my mom Madeline, who was visiting at the time. It was about 10 o'clock, and Chester and I were standing in our kitchen talking. All of the sudden, I realize he's saying things that seem pretty sappy for him. He looked at me and said, "I know that leaving our friends and your job that you love is so hard, but I'm so glad you're willing to do this with me." At this point, he gets down on his knee and says he just wants me to know that there isn't anyone else he wants to get through life's ups and downs with but me. And then...he asked me to be his wife. He slipped my grandmother's ring on my finger in front of my mom. I, of course, cried and said yes, and he left the next day to start our new life. I followed a month later, and here we are!
