Walking around Savannah is an activity in and of itself. Enjoy strolling through the public squares or make your way down to Forsyth Park and see the fountain where Andrew & Lisee got engaged! On the way to Forsyth Park, stop by Monterey square. This square is particularly beautiful and home to the Synagogue Mickve Israel and the Mercer-Williams house, famous as the home in "Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil."
With such a rich history comes many ghosts, and Savannah claims to be one of the most haunted towns in America. For those interested in a little something spooky, a ghost tour will be right up your shadowed alley. There are lots of companies to choose from so feel free to find the one that is the right fit for you. For those who'd like a mansion tour & a ghost tour combined into one, the Sorrel-Weed house makes a great choice.
The Telfair Academy is a lovely art museum with lots of beautiful paitings, sculptures and historic furniture. Andrew especially likes the painting, "The Black Prince at Crécy" and Lisee loves to see the historic "Bird Girl" statue, famous for being on the cover of the novel "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." The Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters was built in 1819, this mansion exemplifies the neoclassical styles popular in England during the Regency period. Visitors will experience an inclusive interpretation of not only the wealthy families that inhabited this home for a span of over 100 years, but of also the enslaved people who lived and labored here.
Some say this could be the origins of the saying "Keeping up with the Joneses" as this is the most beautiful street in Savannah filled with gorgeous old row houses. Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room (Andrew's favorite lunch spot) is actually located on Jones Street.
Frequently toured by visitors due to its beauty, the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is a Roman Catholic cathedral and minor basilica near Lafayette Square. You could also take a historic places of worship tour, which would include the below and more: Lutheran Church of the Ascension, where Andrew and Lisee are getting married! Synagogue Mickve Israel, which is the third oldest Jewish congregation in America. First African Baptist Church, considered to be the oldest Black church in America.
Taste all the southern classics at Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room where you'll enjoy food family style. Come hungry, there is plenty to eat! This is Andrew's favorite restaurant but it's only open for lunch during weekdays. Lines are long but all who eat there say it's well worth it.
