We have been up to Haleakala almost every time we have come to Maui. At 10,023ft high, the views are incredible. It is a mountain, so be aware of the weather (if it is cloudy you probably won't see anything). It also can get quite chilly and windy at the top, so bring a jacket. There is an entrance fee (around $30 per car). The drive from Ka'anapali is about 2 hours to the summit.
We love this drive! This is an all day excursion and you are on winding (often times single lane) roads. So for those that suffer with car sickness you might want to pass on this. You travel through lush, green forests and there are many stop off points. We highly recommend the app GyPSy Guide and you can pay $6-7 for the guided tour of the Road To Hana. The tour guide will tell you what is worth stopping for and what is not. And on your drive back you will get to learn about the history of Hawaii. Some spots along the Road To Hana will require permits that are purchased in advance (Wai'anapanapa State Park - known for the black sandy beaches and lava tunnels). Let us know if you are planning on doing this and we can give you a few of our favorite stop off spots.
Enjoy walking along the streets of Lahaina. You can see the iconic Banyan tree, shop, eat ice cream, enjoy some delicious restaurants and enjoy watching sunsets right next to the Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant.
This is a great snorkeling spot! Very easily accessible and shallow. The coral is in good condition and we saw turtles every single time we snorkeled here.
This totally reminded us of the movie Jurassic Park/World! A 0.6 mile walk will give you a viewpoint of Kuka‘emoku (Iao Needle), an erosional feature which rises 1200 feet from the valley floor.
Enjoy beer from the Maui Brewing company with some local food while enjoying live music.
This is another great snorkeling spot. It will be a bit busier than some other beaches, but if you snorkel out a bit past the rock there is a little cove which has some incredible coral and fish. Highly likely you will see turtles here. The water can get a bit rough, so if you are not confident in the water, better to stay in closer to shore. Also, watch out for people jumping off the rocks. If you are staying in Ka'anapali you can walk to this beach. If you are driving in, park in the Whaler's Village parking structure and then it is about a 10-15 minute walk to the snorkeling spot.
