Things To Do

If you like the great outdoors, there is a ton to do in the Burlington area. This list just gives you a taste. If you'd like recommendations, Lisa's brother or parents can steer you in the right direction.

Redwood Camp

5281 Georgia Shore Road, Georgia, VT 05478

Lisa's parents invite you to join them on their 5-acre property on Lake Champlain the week leading up to the celebration. They have canoes and kayaks to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis. Their decks are great for hanging out, having a drink, and taking in the lake views. The property offers some peaceful woodland walks and wildlife watching. Be warned, though, the Charrons may put you to work getting ready for the celebration.

Hike Camel's Hump

Huntington, VT 05462

Take on the "somewhat challenging" hike to the area's best known summit and enjoy all the Fall colors northwestern Vermont has to offer. There are basically infinite beautiful hikes in Vermont, if you don't particularly want to tackle Camel's Hump. Check out Vermont State Parks and Lake Champlain Land Trust to find the perfect trail.

Go for a paddle

There are many canoe and kayak outfitters along Lake Champlain and the many inland lakes and rivers. It is a great way to take in the Vermont scenery.

Visit a brewery (or a few)

Taste Vermont's heady, hoppy brews. Vermont Brewers Association has a convenient map to plan out your tasting tour.

Smugglers' Notch Resort

4323 Vermont 108, Jeffersonville, VT 05464
, (802) 370-3186

So, you thought ski mountains were only fun in the winter? You thought wrong! Fall activities at Smuggs include mountain biking, disc golfing on two top-tier courses, hiking, and guided tours.

Missisquoi Valley Rail-Trail

Missisquoi Valley Rail-Trail, St. Albans-Richland, VT

A 26.4 mile crushed limestone bike trail that runs from St. Albans to Richland.

Visit Burlington

Burlington, VT

Burlington is a charming small-sized city with lots to do. Meander along the lakeshore, drink locally brewed beer, eat at a variety of restaurants serving local and sustainable options, and don't miss Church Street's storefronts and street performers.

Visit Montreal

Montreal, QC, Canada

Montreal is pretty close, too! Perfect for a day trip.

Ben & Jerry's Factory

1281 Waterbury-Stowe Road, Waterbury, VT 05676

Have your pick of Ben & Jerry's multitude of flavors, or try them all in a Vermonster sundae. See where the deliciousness is created with a scheduled factory tour.

Lake Champlain Chocolates Factory Store

750 Pine Street, Burlington, VT 05401
, (802) 864-1807

See where that sweet goodness is made (and, of course, taste some).

Shelburne Farms

1611 Harbor Road, Shelburne, VT 05482
, (802) 985-8686

A 1,400-acre working farm, historic landmark, and education center. Walk on the beautiful trails, take a tour of the historic buildings or formal gardens, and learn about sustainable farming and forestry.
