Planning Your Trip

You want to stay in Hawaii as long as you can. You will so feel connected to its beauty, learn so much about the Hawaiian culture, and FEEL surrounded by Aloha. Hawaii changes you forever. Ideally, you want to plan to stay 7 nights, 10 nights, or 14 nights. Hawaii is 6 hours behind EST so it typically takes a day or two for body to adjust (Mai Tais help!). We recommend departing on an early morning flight, so you arrive mid-day in Hawaii. Our Wedding is Saturday July 1st and Tuesday is July 4 Independence Day. Lisa, Tommy and I will be staying on Oahu for 2 weeks from Wednesday 06/28/2023 thru Wednesday 07/12/2023! Tips for Booking Flights

Airlines release flight schedules 6 months prior to your travel date. You will get the best rates in JAN/FEB 2023 so the earlier you book, the better. You will fly into Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu on Oahu. United, American, Delta, Southwest, Alaskan, and Hawaiian all fly to Oahu. You will typically find lower rates departing on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. You can ONLY get direct flights from EWR-Newark (NJ) or JFK (NY) with a duration of 10.5 hours. They use larger planes to fly to Hawaii and have plenty of in-flight entertainment to make the time pass by. For preferred flights with 1 stop/layover, a good option is to fly from PHL and stop in LA or SF to break the trip in half (5 hours to CA, 5 Hours to HI.) There are many affordable Rental Car options at HNL. Uber and Lyft both heavily operate in Hawaii as well. Private car services and shuttles also operate from HNL to Honolulu and Waikiki. Transportation and Parking

There are many affordable Rental Car options at HNL. Uber and Lyft both heavily operate in Hawaii as well. Private car services and shuttles also operate from HNL to Waikiki/Honolulu. Many travel rewards programs can be used for rental cars. Just know that they all still make you pay taxes on rental when using points/miles. You can find good deals on Expedia, Priceline, Booking.com and other travel sites. You don't have to worry about transportation for our wedding ceremony and reception because it is all in walking distance from your hotel room in Waikiki. For Parking rental cars, Sheraton Princess Kaiulani and The Royal Hawaiian both offer valet parking for daily fee. They also offer a self-parking garage connected to Sheraton Princess Kaiulani for both properties.

ROOM BLOCKS FOR WEDDING

We have discounted Rooms Blocks available at 2 Marriott Bonvoy sister properties- The Royal Hawaiian and Sheraton Princess Kaiulani for Friday 6/30/2023 – Saturday 7/1/2023. Both hotels are conveniently located in the heart of Waikiki, and you have everything you could ever need within a 3 block radius which is easy to walk and navigate. This room block allows you to extend your discounted rate 3 days prior and 3 days post room block. If you book early enough, you may get same rate for extended days past the 8 nights. You may also mix your reservation to stay at both hotels if desired, for example- Stay a few nights at PK, then stay at the Royal Hawaiian for Friday and Saturday for Wedding, then go back to PK after wedding. Oahu Island Driving Map

Oahu is separated into 5 main areas: Honolulu, the North Shore, the Windward Coast, Central Oahu and the Leeward Coast. Note that world-famous Waikiki is actually a neighborhood located in greater Honolulu. Oahu is made up of two major mountain ranges– the Waianae range to the west and Koolau range to the east – run almost parallel to each other. Over a hundred ridges extend from the spines of each range creating beautiful valleys and stunning mountain vistas. The Waianae range on the west side, separates Central Oahu from the Leeward Coast. For the most part, the leeward (west) side is considerably warmer and drier than the east side of island. The Koolau mountain range spans the length of the island’s eastern coast for about 34 miles from Kahuku in the north to Makapuu in the south. The Koolau range separates the Windward Coast of Oahu from Central Oahu. You can get a fantastic view of the Koolau cliffs from the Nuuanu Pali Lookout. Today, the Windward Coast tends to be Oahu’s wetter and greener side of the island. There are only 3 major Highways on Oahu that connect the entire Island- H1, H2 and H3.
