The Proposal

12/16/17

Steve surprised Lindsey with a hiking trip to AZ for her birthday. While catching up with some friends in the area, Quent suggested we hike Siphon Draw in Tonto National Forest on our last day because, "It's really hard, which is perfect for you two." The descriptor that most stood out was the word "scramble"... or specifically, the need to climb where one cannot tread. Initial trepidation was washed away with the liquid courage of a few margaritas. We awoke the next day ready to take on the beast known as "Siphon Draw". Armed with a hastily purchased Target children's backpack and 90's women's Nike visor for protection from the sun, we made the 1.5-hour drive to Tonto National Forest. A large fortress of rock stood in front of us as we approached the trailhead. With an elevation of 2,933' over only 3 miles and a 12-foot vertical climb at the top - this would be the hardest thing we had ever done together - so, we set a goal of climbing up and back down in under 3 hours. 1.5 hours later we were at the top, stunned by the view, grinning ear-to-ear like idiots. Eventually, we sat down and started talking about all the adventures we'd been on, all the things we'd seen and done together. Steve pulled out a ring and asked Lindsey to go on one more adventure with him.
