We met online. Lindsey sent Stacey a message asking about one of her photos, wondering if the plant she was holding was a rhubarb. However, it was a cabbage. And the rest is history!
We wanted to somehow include the kids in our proposal and decided, because it was the middle of summer, that we would have a water balloon fight. We hid ring pops among the balloons and agreed that whoever got to a ring first, got to "pop" the question first. However, Adasyn found both of the candies and we had to wrestle her for them. This resulted in us opening the ring pops at the same time and being able to propose to each other together!
When we decided to elope, it was during a very uncertain time. We were unsure, because of what was going on in our government, if we were going to continue to have the right to marry each other as a same-sex couple. We wanted to insure that we set ourselves up to be able to provide for our family and so decided to elope before any laws changed. We decided to elope on the autumn equinox. This was significant to us for a number of reasons, but mostly because it is the time of year when light and dark are balanced. We wanted to start our life together in this way to help us remember that even when things get hard, we have the ability to make it better together. We eloped in Rocky Mountain National Park, surrounded by our children and with the help of Lindsey's mom, Wendy. Declan "Lafficianated" (his term for himself) for us and Adasyn was the ring girl. We did a hand fasting ceremony where each of us chose a different color ribbon and wrapped them all around our hands and tied them together after some beautiful words were spoken. We then enjoyed a beautiful homemade cake by our wonderful friend Sarah and had a bonfire and dance party complete with s'mores.
