Lindsey's slice of France in New York: This extension of The Metropolitan Museum of Art showcases Romanesque and Gothic architecture as well as a large collection of medieval art and religious artifacts.
If you visit The Met Cloisters, carve out an extra hour to stroll through the Fort Tryon Park (where we eloped). Our favorite spot in the park, the Heather Garden, has an abundance of seasonal flowers, the occasional woodchuck passing by, and sweeping views of the Hudson River, the George Washington Bridge, and the New Jersey Palisades. It's stunning and well worth your time to visit!
This will be the site of our wedding. For those who have time to visit on either Friday, Saturday morning/early afternoon, or Sunday before taking off, we highly recommend a separate visit. We can't quite tout this place highly enough. It's 250 acres are so peaceful and beautiful and there are so many exciting and interesting things to see here throughout the year. During our wedding weekend, a special exhibit will still be on display. We've been looking forward to Kusama's exhibit since it was postponed last year. https://www.nybg.org/event/kusama/ With, or without, the exhibit adult tickets = $22.
If you have a love for both animals and beautiful architecture, the Bronx Zoo is well worth a visit. It's the largest metropolitan zoo in the U.S. and greets visitors with its lovely art deco Rainey Memorial Gates.
Yet another garden favorite of ours, Wave Hill may very well have been our first choice as a wedding venue had we won the mega millions, lol! This 28 acre garden is just down the road from JFK's childhood Bronx home. It's got expansive views of the Hudson River and the NJ Palisades, much like the Heather Garden, but has a small, labeled, botanical garden and a café for patrons. Adult tickets = $10
If you want to experience some great Italian food and old-world culture, make your way to Arthur Avenue! This is the site of The Bronx Little Italy. Stroll along Arthur Ave. to check out the small specialty shops &restaurants. We highly recommend a stop at Arthur Ave. Retail Market (2344 Arthur Ave, The Bronx, NY 10458) where you can see old men hand rolling cigars at the entrance, hear locals ordering from the butcher in Italian, & grab a Peroni at the bar. Have a hankering for some pasta or a true Neopolitan pizza? Stop at Michelin recommended Zero Otto Nove (https://www.zeroottonove.com/locations/bronx). We've ordered the Pasta al Forno & the Capricciosa pizza. We can vouch that they're worth the calories! Just looking for a quick slice? Stop at Full Moon Pizza (https://www.fullmoonpizza.com/). We've never had a slice we didn't like. Have a craving for a sweet treat? End your stroll at Prince Coffee House (2306 Arthur Ave.) for a cappucino and a slice of tiramisu. Buon appetito!
Whether you're staying in The Bronx or in Tuckahoe, there are trails upon trails along the river for walking and bike riding. The trails are particularly charming up near the Tuckahoe area and you'll see them often packed with joggers, bikers, and dogs walkers enjoying the meandering paths.
