Kippah (pronounced kee-pah)- A kippah or yarmulke is a brimless cap, usually made of cloth, traditionally worn by males to fulfill the customary requirement that the head should be covered. The tradition of wearing a kippah is to remind us that there is a greater power “above” us who watches our every act. Chuppah-The wedding ceremony takes place under the chuppah (canopy), a symbol of the home that the new couple will build together. Circling- The bride traditionally circles around her groom either three or seven times under the Chuppah. Some people believe this is to create a magical wall of protection from evil spirits, temptation, and the glances of other women. Others believe the bride is symbolically creating a new family circle. Giving of the Ring- In Jewish law, a marriage becomes official when an object of value is given to the bride. This is traditionally done with a ring made of plain gold, without blemishes or ornamentation (e.g. stones) ― just as it is hoped that the marriage will be one of simple beauty. Ketubah (Marriage Contract)-The document is signed by two witnesses, and has the standing of a legally binding agreement. Breaking the Glass-This serves as an expression of sadness at the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, and identifies the couple with the spiritual and national destiny of the Jewish people. The Hora- The hora is a traditional dance performed at Jewish weddings where the newlyweds are lifted into the air while their family and friends dance in circles around them. During the hora, the couple each holds one end of a handkerchief or napkin to signify their union.
Due to limited numbers, we hope you understand that children are only invited if named. Your invitation will be made out to "The ( Your Last Name) Family" if your children have been invited and "Mr. & Mrs." if only you and your significant other have been invited.
We unfortunately cannot accommodate additional guests. Due to limited capacity, we can only allow the people named on your invitation. Your invitation will be made out to "(Your Name)" & Guest if a plus one has been given to you.
We will be paying homage to our family restaurants Lerner’s Red Hots and the Milk Pail by having Poochie’s Hot Dogs cater our big day. Instead of a traditional, seated 3-course meal, Poochie’s will be grilling up Chicago style fan fair such as Char dogs, burgers, Polish, grilled chicken, veggie burgers, French fries, and more! The grill will open and unlimited to guests during the duration of dinner service.
