Dating in Boston during a pandemic isn’t easy, but thanks to Hinge, Billy and Lindsey met in August, 2020. On our first date, we went out to dinner in Cambridge and enjoyed talking with each other so much, we closed the restaurant down. The second date channeled our athleticism as we went to the driving range to hit golf balls. After a few buckets of balls, we picked up where we left off on the first date and learned more about our families and our lives. We shared a nice sunset dinner on the outside patio at Granite Links overlooking the Boston skyline. Shortly after, Lindsey returned home to Virginia in the early fall to work for several months. The distance delayed that third date from happening and things started to wind down. However, a BC/UVA football matchup in early December rekindled things. Naturally, a few memes were sent and trash talking ensued. This led to that third date being put on the line for the winning side. UVA delivered a resounding win for Lindsey, and now Billy was on the hook to plan another date. Over the holidays and start of the New Year, the two remained close over text and even shared videos of their work-from-home spaces during the boredom of Covid. Lindsey’s mom, Aimee, noticed that Lindsey was texting a ton on her phone (which if you know Lindsey, this is very rare) and smiling a ton (not rare). Lindsey proceeded to fill her in on who she was talking to and gave her the rundown on this guy Billy. Aimee proceeded to ask, "And why aren't you dating him?" The southern girl finally was prompted to leave Virginia after a few months and returned to Boston in mid-February. Billy set up that third date shortly thereafter for a romantic dinner in Boston's North End on Valentine's Day in 2021. This date, like their previous two, led to closing down the restaurant and a night cap of walking around the Boston Common to see the winter lights and of course, a treat from Mike’s Pastries! One month later, we officially started dating and have spent nearly every day together since.
Everyone likes a good surprise, but a surprise proposal from the love of your life back at home on your parents' dock is about as good as it gets! Lindsey had plans to fly home to Virginia to spend a few weeks with her parents at the lake. Billy and Aimee had been coordinating, and decided the last weekend in January would be the perfect time. It was, but mother nature almost derailed the whole operation with several feet of snow headed toward Boston. Lindsey had never experienced a big snowstorm before and tried her best to stay in Boston, unaware what was about to happen that weekend. Billy and his parents moved their flight up and flew down to DC hours before the storm rolled into Boston. They then drove out to Charlottesville the next day for the surprise proposal. Just to ensure Lindsey wouldn’t catch onto the plan, that morning Billy asked his roommate, Sean, to send him a picture of the snow accumulation back in Boston from their apartment so he could send it to Lindsey. Lindsey thought she was going to a vineyard for the afternoon with her parents, but a quick pit stop at her parents' dock led her to a pleasant surprise… Billy was waiting for her on the dock, took her hand, and asked her to marry him. As Lindsey says, “It was the easiest yes of my life.”
