Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive to the Sleeping Bear Dunes
The Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive is a seven-mile route featuring stunning panoramas of the dunes, Lake Michigan and Glen Lake. Hike along the Cottonwood Trail and stop at the scenic overlooks for a picnic. Entrance to the drive is on M-109 between Glen Haven and Empire in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. $25 entrance fee per vehicle.
Sleeping Bear Dune Climb
Climbing to the top of the Dune Climb is strenuous but rewarding. The good thing about the Dune Climb is that if you get tired before you get to the top, you can just come back down to the picnic area. Gravity is on your side on the return. Once you get to the top and decide to make the hike to Lake Michigan, consider that you will be climbing and descending several steep dunes before you get to the lake, and you have to repeat the process to get back. The whole trip is about 3.5 miles and may take 3-4 hours depending on your condition and the weather. This will be best for an early morning activity before it gets too hot. It sits right next to highway M-109 and just north of Pierce Stocking Scenic Road, the park's heavily traveled loop drive. At the base of the Dune Climb there is a spacious parking lot, a visitor center (the Dune Center), a park store, modern restrooms, a playground, and a nice picnic area.

From the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes to the West Arm of Grand Traverse Bay, you will experience the amazing beauty that the Leelanau Peninsula has to offer. You will find quaint towns, crystal clear lakes and streams, abundant wildlife and rolling terrain that includes vineyards, farms and forests.
Traverse Tall Ship Company
Sailing out of Traverse City, Michigan, Tall Ship Manitou is a replica of an 1800’s “coasting” cargo schooner, similar to those that sailed the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean. Pricing ranges $30-$90 for two hours.
