Love at First Sight (for Lindsay)

October 4, 2010

When Hans was a Senior in high school, Lindsay was a freshmen. Hans had the greatest Justin Bieber haircut and Lindsay had braces. Lindsay had a huge crush on Hans, and loved to stare at him whenever she had the chance. On October 4, 2010, Lindsay and Markayla (her maid of honor) were hanging out after they had lost their volleyball game. Following the game, they walked out to the fields so Lindsay could stare at Hans through the fence while he was at soccer practice. This occurence was documented by Markayla in a facebook post later that day (See photos).

Later that Year

2010

Lindsay and Markayla had been in the high school gym all evening watching the freshman and sophomore boys' basketball games. Because they had been there since the start of the first game, they had great, front row seats and they were excited to watch the varsity game. Just before the game started, Hans entered the gym and walked up to Lindsay and Markayla and confessed he also had a crush on Lindsay! Just kidding, he said, "Move, I'm a senior. I'm going to sit there." But Lindsay and Markayla did not move, so Hans walked on.

First Date

December 9, 2018

8 years later, after Hans had graduated from Chico State and Lindsay from UCLA, they went on their first date. It was a double date set up by guess whooo... Markayla! Together, Hans, Lindsay, Markayla, and her boyfriend who worked with Hans went to the Christmas tree farm to pick a tree and decorate it at Hans' house. From then on, they continued dating and growing closer to one another.

The Proposal

July 26, 2020

On July 26, 2020, Hans and Lindsay left for a trip to Yosemite National Park. On their first day there, they decided to endure a strenuous hike to the top of Yosemite Falls. About half way up the mountain, Lindsay commented that choosing this difficult hike seemed a bit foolish because they were leaving at 3am the next morning to hike Half Dome which would be a 17 mile hike. Hans agreed, but they continued on. A bit later, Lindsay was hungry and went to reach into Hans' backpack for a snack. Hans' promptly stopped her and said he would get it. While getting a snack out of his bag, Lindsay noticed that he had a beanie in his backpack. It was 96 degrees in Yosemite that day, so Lindsay asked Hans why in the world he brought a beanie. Hans ignored Lindsay's question and handed her the snack. Lindsay was satisfied and so she asked no further questions. Once they reached the top of Yosemite Falls, Hans retrieved a small box from the inside of his beanie and proposed to Lindsay who asked, "Do my parents know!?" before saying YES. The strenuous hike was definitely worth it. Although, Hans had gotten terrible blisters from it and then had to do the 17 mile Half Dome hike the next day with raw feet. But that was worth it too! They are so thankful they got to share that experience on an unforgettable trip.
