How We Met

(a.k.a. The Backup Plan That Was Meant to Be)

We met the way many service industry legends do—on the clock, slightly sweaty, and silently judging everything happening around us. He was the busboy. I was the bartender. He was cute, quiet, and suspiciously good at disappearing right when dishes piled up. I noticed him immediately—great hair, good vibes, strong plate-carrying game. But we didn’t talk. Like, at all. Just the occasional nod across the bar like, “You surviving?” “Barely.” Then fate (and our best friends) stepped in. My best friend started dating his best friend, which meant we got pulled into their little friend group like two side characters in a rom-com. Suddenly we were all hanging out as a group of four—game nights, late-night food runs, “totally platonic” post-shift drinks. And somewhere in all of that… something shifted. The connection between us? Undeniable. It crept up slowly—no drama, no forced moments—just that annoying little spark that wouldn’t go away. Then—because life’s timing is weird—the original couple broke up. We were all grown-ups about it (kind of), and somehow, instead of the friend group falling apart… we fell together. No scandal. No betrayal. Just two people who realized the universe had sneakily placed them in the same restaurant, the same friend circle, and finally, in the same relationship. Moral of the story? Sometimes you’re not Plan A—but you’re the one that actually works.

💍 Our Proposal Story

Oscar & Linda – 7 Years in the Making

For our 7th dating anniversary, Oscar planned a surprise evening that I’ll never forget. He took me on a romantic gondola ride through the canals of Las Colinas, Texas. The boat was beautifully decorated with flowers, and we sipped sparkling water and enjoyed a cozy charcuterie board as we drifted along the water. I thought it was just a special anniversary — which, in itself, was already perfect. As the gondola slowly returned to the dock, I noticed something unusual. A heart-shaped arch filled with roses stood on the pier, with glowing letters underneath that read “Will you marry me.” My heart skipped. I turned to Oscar, confused and excited, and asked, “Wait… is that for me?” As we got closer, I saw a familiar face — my best friend standing just behind the arch, smiling from ear to ear. Before I could even process it, I heard “SURPRISE!” and looked to my right… There were around 20 of our closest friends and family gathered, watching, smiling, capturing the moment. That’s when it hit me — this was really happening. My eyes filled with tears, overwhelmed by love, joy, and the sheer thoughtfulness of it all. Oscar gently walked me to the center of the rose arch, got down on one knee, looked up at me with that nervous, loving smile — and asked me to marry him. I said YES! I was shaking so hard from excitement and adrenaline that he could barely get the ring on my finger. It felt like a dream — surreal, magical, and absolutely perfect. For the rest of the night, I was floating on cloud nine, surrounded by everyone we love. It was everything I never knew I needed, and more. A night we’ll remember forever. ❤️
