We met back in high school when Linda was a freshman and Chris was a Junior. We saw each other in the hallway but didn't really speak even though Chris was dating Linda's best friend at the time. The night that we actually had a conversation and became friends was on Friday, September 12, 2003. Linda went to Chris's Friday night football game with his then girlfriend to watch him play, and then after the game went back to his parents house for ice cream cake as it was his Birthday. After this even through break ups and dating others while we were in high school, we remained great friends, always bonding and aggravating each other over hockey. Chris was the one who picked up Linda when she was being bullied, and picked her up the day she found out her brother was hurt in Afghanistan. Chris was always the shoulder for Linda to lean on even the years after high school. Around the year 2010, Linda and Chris hung out one night and Chris kissed her. They realized with Linda in college full time and working two jobs, and Chris working nights, it just would not work out and decided to remain friends but came up with their famous pact "If we are single at 30, then we'll know it was meant to be and we'll try dating".
After we made our pact around the year 2010, we still remained great friends and kept in touch, and of course talked the most when the Red Wings played the Bruins. During the Spring/early summer of 2018 Linda found herself as a single mother and jokingly wrote to Chris asking about their pact after he texted her to check on her and see how she was doing. Chris agreed we should try hanging out and seeing where are we now that we're older and in different parts of our lives. So we did and well that was the start of the most beautiful thing!
We had been planning a trip to Detroit since last September to see the Red Wings play the Bruins and I (Linda) totally thought the proposal was going to happen in Detroit! Well Chris got antsy on Sunday morning, January 26, 2020 and decided to make me breakfast in bed and pop the question!
