Flight
For guests traveling by air, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is the primary airport serving the New Orleans area. Located approximately 15 miles west of downtown New Orleans, the airport offers nonstop flights to and from major cities throughout the United States, making it a convenient gateway for wedding guests traveling from near and far. After arriving, guests can reach downtown New Orleans, the French Quarter, and surrounding hotels via rideshare services, taxis, rental cars, or airport shuttle options. Travel time to the French Quarter is typically 20-30 minutes. The airport features a modern terminal with a variety of restaurants, shops, and traveler amenities. We recommend booking flights and accommodations early, as Mardi Gras is one of the most popular times of year to visit New Orleans. For flight information, transportation options, and airport services, please visit the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport website.
Train
For guests traveling from nearby cities, Amtrak offers a convenient and scenic alternative to flying or driving. New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal serves as the city's central rail station and is located just a short distance from the French Quarter, downtown hotels, and many of the city's major attractions. Amtrak routes connect New Orleans with destinations across the country, including Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C., Atlanta (via connecting service), Los Angeles, and numerous cities throughout the South. Travelers can enjoy spacious seating, the ability to move around during the journey, and beautiful views along the way, particularly on routes that travel through the Gulf Coast region. Guests considering train travel are encouraged to book tickets early, as schedules and availability may vary during the busy Mardi Gras season. For routes, schedules, and fares, please visit the Amtrak website.
Travel Note
New Orleans is easily accessible by car from many cities throughout the Gulf Coast and Southeast. Guests planning to drive should be aware that traffic may be heavier than usual during Mardi Gras weekend, particularly near parade routes and the French Quarter. Parking is available at many hotels, public garages, and surface lots throughout downtown New Orleans. If you are staying in the French Quarter, we recommend confirming parking arrangements with your hotel in advance, as availability and rates may vary. Once downtown, many attractions, restaurants, and wedding events can be reached on foot.
Travel Note
New Orleans is a highly walkable city, especially within the French Quarter, Central Business District, and nearby neighborhoods. Rideshare services such as Uber and Lyft are widely available, and traditional taxis can also be found throughout the city. Guests may also enjoy riding the historic St. Charles Streetcar, one of the oldest continuously operating streetcar lines in the world (streetcar routes in the link provided). Walking, rideshares, and public transportation are often the easiest ways to navigate the city during Mardi Gras weekend, when some streets may be closed for parades and special events.
