Lily's favorite trails are the Clay Head Trail (#3 on link) to Settlers Rock and the Rodman's Hollow to Black Rock trails (#11). Beware of the Clay Head trail - always keep right towards the coast. They don't call it "the maze" for nothing. If you make your way out to Black Rock at low tide, there are some really cool tidepools to explore. Rodman's hollow and Andy's Way have excellent birding. Walking from Settler's Rock to Sandy Point is lovely too. You will probably see seals in the cove. And please feel free to swing by our house any time for a jump off the dock or guided nature walk around the marsh ;)
The best swimming beaches on the island are along the stretch of Crescent Beach which includes the Fred Benson town beach, Scotch beach and Mansion beach. Fred Benson is the only beach with facilities (bathroom, grill, showers), but if you want to escape the crowds we recommend going further down to Scotch or Mansion and walking down if you need to use the beach house. You can also park at the foot of the paths between Town beach and Scotch. PLEASE stay on the paths and off the dunes. For the brave, there is great snorkeling and spear fishing off the old getty (aka "shit chute") below the Spring House hotel and along the ferry break wall below the Surf Hotel.
One of the best dinners on the island. Takes reservations!
Our other favorite place for dinner. Put your name in and go grab a drink. They'll call you when your table is ready. Almost all the staff here are good friends. Tell them you are on island for the Mleczko/Buck wedding! Also, definitely start with the tuna nachos. Trust us on this one.
One of our favorite spots for lunch. Perfect location overlooking the harbor. Lily's picks: sriracha wings, chowder and a scallop roll. Lukes picks: Lobster BLT, sriracha wings, and a mudslide.
A beautiful spot for lunch or dinner and one of our favorite places to have a cocktail before sunset. If you can, make sure you check out this iconic Victorian hotel. Eat, drink or roll down the hill like Lily did when she was a little girl.
The Spring House porch in the early evening or at sunset for a cocktail is a can't miss. We also really like the bar behind the Surf Hotel that sticks out over the ocean. You can also check out the lawn of the Atlantic Inn that overlooks the Draper's exotic animal farm. If night life is what you are looking for, Yellow Kittens, Captain Nicks, the Poor People's Pub and Tigerfish usually have bands, DJs and plenty of libations to dance the night away. If you're feeling brave and want to mingle with the locals, then check out the Old Island Pub. If you behave yourself you can tell them you know the bride.
