If we are being technical, Ben and I first met in our kindergarten class. It may not have been love at first sight but our paths crossed again through mutual friends when we first began high school. At sophomore year homecoming, Ben and I were seated next to each other and fortunately (or unfortunately depending on who you ask) did not spend much time talking to our own dates. It only took us ten years after that date to make it official!
My mother and I were out shopping one Saturday afternoon. In hindsight, she had been keeping a close eye on her phone and making it a point to stay out for as long as possible. When we got home, I went straight to setting up the new home decor I had purchased for me and Ben's new house when my mom asked, "Oh, what's tied to Obi's collar?" (I was clearly too distracted to have followed the plan as intended). On the note, there were coordinates to a local park with a beautiful skyline view of our favorite city, Cleveland. Although my mother tried very hard to connivence me otherwise, I was pretty certain of what was happening (despite my mom's slight insinuation that Ben may have been kidnapped). Once I arrived, Ben got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife and I, of course, said yes! Ben's brother, his girlfriend and my mom were all there to help us celebrate and to capture the memory in photos.
See you in Akron!
