Back in 2014, after months of Liliana trying to convince MOH, Anna Kassman, to invite Luke to pretty much everything, they finally found themselves at the same party and the rest is history. The texting began and so did their love story. Luke asked Liliana, unknowingly, to hang out on Valentine's Day while the Strangs were out of town and they giggled over chips and quesadillas. One short month later on March 14, 2014, Luke walked Liliana to her car (already past her curfew) and nervously asked her to be his girlfriend. This seemed to be a constant in the relationship, really pushing the limit to spend as much time as possible together before the dreaded college departure. 3 formals and 3 proms later, Liliana left for Salisbury and Luke left for Syracuse - 380 miles apart. And after 4 years of visiting each other every 6-8 weeks, they were finally in the same place at the same time. Liliana brought home Cammy Lou in 2020 and she had a solid year before he was wrapped around Luke’s finger. After years of dreaming and planning, the three of them packed up their things and made the cross-country move to Boulder, Colorado! They now live in their cozy haven in the trees at 7,200 feet, surrounded by frequent visits from foxes, deer, and bears.
Big Sky, Montana, holds a special place in our hearts. Our weekend began with a 4:45 AM wake-up call. Liliana got up early, ready to embrace the day, hair and makeup perfect, just in case. Little did she know, it would be a day we’d both remember forever. We were there to spend the weekend with my parents, who had coordinated the big surprise. The real adventure began when we headed to Yellowstone National Park for a wildlife tour. At that point, Liliana had no idea my parents had coordinated a special plan with the tour guide, including a professional photographer to capture the big moment. She thought that my dad would be behind the camera whenever the big moment happened! After a few hours of touring, we finally arrived at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone—home to the park’s stunning yellow rocks. My parents discreetly hung back as we took in the view, and in that moment, Liliana was focused on her trusty film camera, capturing the beauty around us. Just as she snapped a picture of the waterfall, I got down on one knee. That split second became timeless - and the photo she took right before the proposal now holds a special place in our home! We spent the rest of the day without any service, fully immersed in the moment, spotting three grizzly bears, bison, coyotes, and more on our eight hour tour. The tour guide even brought champagne to celebrate during our lunch by the river! Finally, as the day began to wind down, we headed back to Big Sky, still buzzing from the excitement. As Liliana nonchalantly took photos of the sunset and golden aspen trees by the cabin, she had no idea that her parents were waiting inside to surprise her. They had gotten up early and hopped on a flight at 5 AM, spending the whole day traveling to be there for the big day. After eight hours of flights and layovers, plus a one-hour drive to the cabin, Oscar and Jessica did what they had to do to pull off the biggest surprise of all time (and yes, it’s all on video). Inside the cabin was champagne, chocolate chip cookies, and flowers to celebrate! We all spent the weekend together, creating the most special memories as we hiked over seven miles through my parents property at Beehive Basin, biked through beautiful Big Sky to Ousel Falls, and ended the weekend with a delicious and authentic Montana steak dinner at Lone Mountain Ranch.
