We first met during the Autumn of 2015 in New York City. We were both doing postgraduate law studies at NYU. Good buddies for a while, we only started dating until the second semester of law school. However, it was "just for a while"; we all know intercontinental relationships don't last...
A huge pile of water was in our way. Somehow, someway, we almost got used to long flights and jet-lagging. The nice part was discovering each other's part of the world, the bad part was having to say goodbye in the airport everytime...
In July 2018, Luis moved to Brussels in what one could describe as "not ideal circumstances". It is to say that moving to the other end of the world with a cast and a wheelchair was not very practical; especially when the airline also manages to lose the two heavy bags containing a big part of your life. Since then, we happily live together in Ixelles (Brussels), talk a weird combination of English, Spanish and French, and love each other a little bit more every day.
Yep, if you were not yet convinced about our love for complicated things, here comes the best part. We got engaged in September 2019 and planned to get married during 2020... Yeah, right: Covid had other plans. Due to travels bans and other restrictions, we had to postpone our wedding celebrations. Nevertheless, we decided to go through with our civil wedding and got legally married on September 4, 2020.
One of the first thing that became clear when we started planning our wedding, was the fact that we wanted to organize an event in our two homecountries, so we could celebrate with all our loved ones. This has become even more true since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has rendered travelling accross the Atlentic increasingly tricky for a lot of us. Therefore, after our religious wedding in Mexico on 19 June 2021, we will celebrate our commitment again in Belgium on 6 November 2021: more info on that soon.
